Why Spring Is Portland's Busiest Cleanout Season

Every April, Portland homeowners open their garage doors after a long winter and face the same reality: camping gear tangled with holiday decorations, appliances that quit working in October, boxes nobody's touched since the last move. The Pacific Northwest winter has a way of making everything pile up inside.

Spring is when people actually tackle it — and for good reason. The weather cooperates, donation centers are staffed for the surge, and summer is right around the corner when you'll actually want to use your garage and outdoor spaces. The problem? Garages and basements don't cleanout themselves, and hauling heavy appliances to the dump is a full weekend project on its own.

That's where we come in. We're Haul Yeah PDX — a Portland-based, family-owned junk removal crew that's been hauling away the Pacific Northwest's off-season accumulation for years. During spring cleaning season, we offer:

We haul it, sort it, donate what's usable, recycle what can be recycled, and dispose of the rest responsibly. You don't make a single trip to the dump. Get a free quote in 30 seconds →

What a Spring Cleanout Actually Looks Like

Before — Garage
A Typical Portland Garage in April Two bikes you haven't ridden in years, a chest freezer that died last December, three bags of old camping gear, a treadmill no one touches, lumber scraps from a 2022 project, and four boxes labeled "misc." stacked floor to ceiling. You can't find the lawn mower.
After — Garage
Two Hours Later Empty floor. Clean walls. The working bike is parked where you can actually reach it. The lawn mower has a home. The chest freezer is gone — recycled at a metal facility. The camping gear worth keeping is in a labeled bin. Everything else? Hauled away and handled responsibly.
Before — Basement
A Portland Basement in Spring Old sectional sofa from the previous owners, a washer that's been out of commission since 2023, holiday decorations across seven boxes, a broken elliptical, and three bags of kids' clothes waiting for a donation run that never happened. It smells like mildew in the corner.
After — Basement
Cleared in a Morning Open floor plan. The sectional went to Community Warehouse. The washer was recycled. Holiday decorations are down to one organized bin of keepers. The elliptical is gone. Kids' clothes were dropped at Goodwill same day. Corner was swept and dried. You can actually use the space now.

We're Portland people. We care about where your junk ends up. Here's how we handle everything we take:

♻️
Donate First Furniture, appliances, and household goods in usable condition go to Portland-area donation centers — Habitat ReStore, Goodwill, Community Warehouse, and St. Vincent de Paul. We route drop-offs locally when possible.
🔩
Recycle Metals & Electronics Scrap metal and e-waste are separated and sent to certified recycling facilities. Refrigerators, washers, TVs, computers — all handled by licensed processors, not the landfill.
🏭
Licensed Transfer Station for the Rest What can't be donated or recycled goes to a licensed transfer station — never illegally dumped. We're fully insured and operate within Oregon environmental standards.

⚠️ Note: We can't haul hazardous materials — paint, chemicals, asbestos, propane tanks. Contact Metro's HHW program for those items.
